LAUNCH RIDE TO PAPI HILLS
As
part of the tourism development package the district administration
of Khammam has introduced a launch ride from Kunavaram to Papi
kondalu - the cloud-laced hill range. As the mighty river races
past the hills taking the course that resembles a narrow gorge,
it appears to be in hurry. The launch ride from Kunavaram- the
confluence point of Sabari river with Godavari where from the
river turns brown and turbid- is a pleasant experience. As the
launch gets closer to the jungles which cover the river route
all along, it would be a visual delight and feast of colours
for a naked eye. The jungles are inhabited by colourful tribal
people. Papi Hills is believed to be a place where all the sins
are cleansed. |

in view, the importance of the place, the District Tourist Department
has recently started a package tour from Bhandrachalam to Papi
hills through Perantalapally. |

Perantalapalli
village in Velairpadu mandal is situated 80 K.Ms from Bhandrachalam
There is some historical background behind the formation of
this remote village. The region of this place was under darkness
eight decades ago with full of thickened forest containing trees
and bushes that none could reside. During the year 1927, the
Saint " Sri Swamy Balananda Yogi" visited this place and strived
hard for its development and for ameliorating the living standards
of tribals here. At present, 30 tribal families are residing
in the village and they have taken up the 'Podu' cultivation.
The village is a free of Alcoholism and Observes high moral
values.
