DPAP (Drought Prone Area Programme) has been created as a separate establishment on Dt 28-09-2001vide G.O.Ms.No 275 PR&RD(RD-II) Dept. Dt 05-09-2001by bifurcating from DRDA exclusively to look after development of human resources and Natural Resources on Watershed Basis. Consequently, the Govt. vide GO.MS.No.84 PR&RD (RD-IV) Dept. Dt.22-03-03 have issued orders changing the nomenclature of Project Director DPAP as Project Director District Water Management Agency (DWMA) uniformly for all districts in the state
The Chairman of the Project is District Collector and the Project is looked after by Project Director who is assisted by M.D.T (Multi Disciplinary Team) having one Deputy Executive Engineer, Assistant Conservator of Forest, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Assistant Engineer and Agriculture Officer as members. There are 157 Watersheds in different Schemes being monitored with the help of 17 P.I.As (Project implementing Agency)14 of them being N.G.Os. The Project is also monitoring Neeru – Meeru, Food for Work Programme, AP WALTA and APMIP in the District

The ultimate aim of watershed management is to achieve and maintain a balance between resources development to increase the welfare of the population and resource conservation to safeguard resources for future exploitation and to maintain ecological diversity both for ethical reasons and as an assumed pre-requisite the survival of mankind.
 
 
Andhra Pradesh Micro Irrigation Project (APMIP)

The APMIP has been launched in the District in November 2003 and the achievements are as follows:
