Sericulture is an important
agro-based labour intensive and rural industry
with adequate scope to contribute to increase
the rural economy with high potentiality for
work like leaf picking, cultural operation,
application of manure fertilizers and feeling
the silkworm and harvesting of cocoon in the
sericulture activity, and fetching an income
of Rs.15,000/- to 20,000/- in an extent of
one acre in year. Sericutlure is taken up
in this district since 30 years. At present
around 100 farmers are engaged in Sericulture
activity in the mandals of Mudigionda, Penuballi,
Enkoor, Venkatapuram and Aswapuram.
Sericulture
involve (4) distinct phases of activities
like (1) Mulberry Cultivation, (2) Silk worm
rearing (3) Reeling (4) Weaving and processing.
The
following infrastructure is created to support
the farming community.
TECHNICAL
SERVICE CENTRES:
Two
technical service centers have been established
at Venkatapuram and Khammam to provide silk
worm seed, technical guidance, disease monitoring,
collection of data, supply of mulberry cutting
as well as to bring additional areas under
mulberry.
SEED
FARMS:
(4)
seed farmers were established in the district
for supply of cutting and to conduct of training
programme and also to produce seed cocoons
for preparation of CB DFLS,at Garimellapadu,
Akinepalli, Aswaraopeta and Khammam.
GRAINAGE:
For
production of CB DFLS and supply of healty
hybrid silkworm seed to the Seri culturists
in the district grain age was established
at Wyra.
MAKET
FACILTIES:
In
order to consume reeling cocoons produced
by the local farmers of the district one (12)
basin reeling unit cum cocoon market have
been established at Bhadrachalam. It provides
training to the new entrepreneurs in silk
reeling.
TASARCULTURE:
Tasar
was taken up in the district for the past
40 years. Around 400 – 500 landless
tribals involved in the Tasar culture and
getting an income of Rs.8,000 – 10,000/-
in an year without any investment.
Tasarculture
is being practiced in Wazeedu, Venkatapuram,
Cherla, Burgampadu, Kunavaram, Chinturu and
V R Puram mandals.
Under
Tasarculture one Govt. Tasar Seed Station
was established at Venkatapuram to provide
technical assistance to tasar growers for
production of disease free layings (eggs),
reeling and weaving activity. During 2003-04
under VELUGU it is proposed to cover 600 land
less tribal familities in the agency areas
by forming Self Help Groups.
TASAR
REELING & WEAVING TRAINING PROGRAMME
To
Create market facility to the produced tasar
cocoons by traibals it is proposed to take
lup tasar reeling and weaving by consuming
the cocoons locally. A training programme
on tasar reeling and weaving (13) tribal women
was completed and a quantity of 380 Meters
Tasar cloth was produced by the trainees and
three trainees are provided subsidy, margin
money from ITDA and bank loan for establishing
(8) tasar reeling units. The reelers are produced
tasar silk yarns by consuming local tasar
cocoons, and with the yard 136.00 meters of
tasar cloth. |
